Ermelo-Msukaligwa Mining Operations
The Local Economic Development (LED) plan in place for Wesselton Mine and Mashalas Penumbra PDC for the Ermelo-Msukaligwa operations is currently being implemented in conjunction with the Skills Development, Career Progression, Employment Equity, Procurement Policy, Mentorship and External Bursary initiatives. The ultimate goal of Mashalas LED plan is to encourage Mashalas staff, and people in the communities in close proximity to the mining operations, to take a proactive stance looking into the future. It incorporates the following:
- Development of SMME projects to enhance the quality of life of communities immediately surrounding Mashalas operations
- Participation in the Msukaligwa IDP Representative Forum through a representative serving on the Forum. Where Mashala has the required expertise, the Mashala representative will facilitate the transfer of knowledge, skills and ideas to municipal initiatives
- Contributing to the education of nutritional and HIV/AIDS knowledge for the staff and the community residing in close proximity to the Ermelo mining operations and the PPDC

Participating in projects prioritised by the local Msukaligwa Municipality IDP by providing financial and related non-financial assistance.
The social responsibility and community initiatives will be extended to include those areas where Mashalas new projects are commissioned
